On June 8^th 2015 forty-nine foursomes joined the NYC Chapter of ASIS International at The Village Club at Sands Point for our annual charity golf outing. The day was enjoyed by all and we were especially happy to report that we rose over $12,000 in donations for our benefactor, The Hance Family Foundation. We are grateful for all those who contributed to the charity; especially to Mulligan Security who made a match donation of $2,350. (See Award)

 

The Hance Family Foundation was founded to honor the memories of Emma, Alyson, and Katie Hance, who died in a car accident on July 26, 2009, at ages 8, 7, and 5. Funds raised for this Foundation supports their innovative self-esteem educational program for girls, Beautiful Me…The EAK Project, as well as local education and charitable giving programs for children.

On April 23-24 2015 ASIS International together with the NYC Chapter held the 25th edition of this iconic event. Nearly 2300 attended the conference to see 120 exhibitors, participate in a full schedule of education topics, and a keynote presentation by John D. Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children®. Commissioner William J. Bratton of the New York Police Department was honored as the 2015 Person of the Year at a luncheon attended by over 700 people including dignitaries in Private Security and Law Enforcement. Also at the luncheon past Chapter Chairman George W. Anderson was awarded the 2015 Eugene J. Casey CPP Award for his exceptional volunteer contributions to the NYC Chapter.  Noted in the photo below positioned between Lynn Brown and Craig Schwab is Michael Greco, the newly appointed US Marshall of the New York Southern District.

 

The Expo floor was buzzing with industry professionals eager to learn about the latest in security products and services ending each day with some networking over complementary beverages hosted by the NYC Chapter. Please enjoy some of the photos taken at the conference.

The March ASIS NYC luncheon took place at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse in lower Manhattan with over 100 registered attendees. This month’s speaker was Diego G. Rodriguez, the newly appointed Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office. Diego is a born and raised New Yorker who has enthusiastically returned to his hometown with his wife and 4 daughters to serve in his new role.

Diego’s core message was his commitment to maximize the collaboration with other City Agencies and the private sector. He explained his goal to “de-mystify” the FBI through a culture of trust, accountability and by building meaningful relationships and public-private partnerships which are mutually beneficial.

Diego further explained that the FBI will always focus on its core missions of protecting the U.S. against terrorism & cyber-based attacks, as well as combatting major crimes; however, he also commits to working with those of us at the front line by asking, “How can he and his team help?”. The FBI has devoted significant resources to investigate and prevent cyber-based attacks, and he encouraged everyone in attendance to join Infraguard https://www.infragard.org/. Infraguard is a vital partnership between the FBI and the private sector dedicated to sharing information and intelligence to prevent hostile acts against the U.S.

 

Chairman Schwab Presents Speaker Appreciation Award to FBI ADIC, New York Field Office

The February meeting held at Rosie O’Grady’s, a favorite venue with Chapter membership, was highlighted with an insightful presentation on drug counterfeiting, supply chain security, and risk management best practices in healthcare security by speaker Matthew Bassiur, Vice President, Pfizer Global Security.

Chairman Schwab made the following announcements on upcoming events:

• The March luncheon is at Bobby Vans on March 20 where Diego Rodriguez, new ADIC of FBI NYC Office, will speak
• The 25^th NYC Security Conference and Expo will be held on April 24-25
• Advertising is still available in the Security Director show magazine
• The NYC Chapter Golf Outing scheduled for June 8^th is open for player registration
