Recap of January 2017 Chapter Meeting

The New York City Chapter of ASIS International held its first meeting of the New Year on January 20, 2017 at the Yale Club in New York City coincident with the US Presidential Inauguration. The peaceful transfer of power occurred between outgoing Chairman Craig Schwab, CPP and Chairman elect Lynn S. Brown. The Officers for the 2017 to 2019 administration were sworn by Michael Greco, US Marshal of the Southern District of New York taking their oath. The new officers of the New York Chapter are:

Treasurer – Steve Sacchetti, MSM
Secretary – Brian H. Reich, CPP

Past immediate Chairman Craig Schwab, CPP held his last meeting as Chairman and introduced the incoming Chapter Officers to take their oaths. We thank Craig for the tireless contributions he has made to the NYC Chapter for the past eight years as Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. Pictured below, Craig displays the award given to him by the NYC Chapter for his years of service. Craig will be continuing his service with the NYC Chapter on the Advisory Board and as the Co-Chair of the Trade Show Committee.

Our Chairman couldn’t be successful without the support of their wives for the family sacrifice they make of time and effort to the NYC Chapter. Andrea Schwab, wife of Craig and Francine Brown, wife of Lynn were thanked by the Chapter at the meeting for their support and given a bouquet of flowers as our token of appreciation.

The NYC Chapter looks forward to a new administration that has already announced plans for enhanced member education, an exciting Security Conference and Expo at the Javits Center, and new initiatives for our Women in Security and Young Professional groups. We are honored to announce that New York City Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill has accepted the NYC Chapter 2017 Person of the Year award to be presented to him on June 8th at the 27th ASIS New York City Security Conference and Expo during the luncheon.

Recap of 2016 Golf Outing

On June 13, 2016 the NYC Chapter held its annual Charity Golf Outing. As always this event was completely sold out by the first week of March. This year we had 152 golfers. The weather was perfect.

 

The charity that we choose this year was the Lexiebean Foundation. The Lexiebean Foundation was created out of the need for financial and emotional support for families that are coping with pediatric cancer. The foundation helps families ease the financial and emotional burdens that childhood cancer places upon a family, while providing comfort to children as they cope with the extended hospital stays, often associated with their illness. This year we broke all records raising $16,340.00 for our charity The Lexiebean Foundation. Our sincere thanks goes to Kevin Mulligan of Mulligan Security Company for their match of $3400 to our charity benefit total.

Happy Holidays!

It is that time again and the NYC Chapter of ASIS International is having our Holiday Luncheon on Friday, December 16th from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. This year we are excited to hold the Holiday Luncheon at a new venue, The New Yorker located at 481 8th Ave, NYC; just a short walk from Penn Station. The luncheon is on the second floor in the Grand Ballroom, providing for a very unique and amazing holiday event.

 

A buffet lunch will be served including complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks. Registration for individuals and company groups can be made online below. There is only open seating for this luncheon. Tables are available however there will be no reserved tables; seating will be on a first come bases.

 

This year we will again have a raffle for a 55 inch flat screen Smart TV; all proceeds will be donated to the Companions for Heroes, a non-profit charitable organization. Companions for Heroes (C4H) provides companion animals obtained from shelters and/or rescues, who might otherwise be euthanized, free of charge to active duty military personnel, military veterans, and first-responders recovering from the psychological challenges they suffered during service to our country. C4H increases public awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other challenges confronting our country’s heroes; and rally’s support for animal welfare and the adoption of shelter and/or rescue animals. As in previous years the NYC Chapter raffles many smaller prizes to attendees at the Holiday Luncheon to add excitement to the holiday festivity. Prizes are donated by member companies for which we recognize their generosity during the raffle. Companies wishing to donate a raffle prize should contact Craig Schwab at Chairman@asisnyc.org for arrangements. We ask that prizes be at a minimum of $150 in value.

 

Also, we will announce the winner of ‘2016 The Security Officer of the Year’. We have received several nominations from guard companies and have some excellent candidates. The recipient will be awarded a check for $1,500.

 

Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships also will be awarded at the meeting.

A sit-down lunch will be served with soft drinks; a drink ticket redeemable for wine or beer will be provided and a cash bar is available for additional beverages.

 

Registration for individuals, groups and tables of ten can be made below. Ticket purchases for 10, 20 and 30 will automatically reserve a table for the company. Attendees who indicate CPP status when registering online will receive a certificate at the meeting for one (1) CPP continuing education credit.

William F. Sweeney Jr., Assistant Director In Charge – FBI, NY Field Office

William F SweeneyWilliam F. Sweeney Jr. entered on duty with the FBI in 1998. He was assigned to a public corruption squad at the Newark Field Office, where he conducted investigations in the Hudson County area. In 2004, he transferred to the al Qaeda squad on the division’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and was later promoted to squad supervisor.

 

In March 2009, Mr. Sweeney was promoted to assistant section chief of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, International Terrorism Operations Section 1, at the National Counterterrorism Center in Northern Virginia. In this role, he oversaw international terrorism investigations conducted throughout the continental United States. During this assignment, Mr. Sweeney was a member of a team that received the 2010 Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service and the National Intelligence Exceptional Service Medal.

 

In October 2010, Mr. Sweeney returned to Newark as an assistant special agent in charge, and was initially responsible for overseeing the division’s criminal enterprise branch, with investigations targeting violent crime, gangs, drug trafficking, organized crime, and international criminal enterprises. In December 2011, Mr. Sweeney assumed leadership of the National Security Branch within the division. In this role, he managed the JTTF and counterintelligence matters throughout New Jersey.

 

From February 2013 to March 2014, Mr. Sweeney was the special assistant to the FBI’s deputy director at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. In March 2014, Mr. Sweeney was named special agent in charge of the Counterterrorism Division of the New York Field Office, where he oversaw the JTTF and all FBI counterterrorism investigations and operations in the New York Field Office’s area of responsibility. He most recently served as special agent in charge of the Philadelphia Field Office.

 

Director James B. Comey named William F. Sweeney Jr. assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office in July 2016.

 

Before joining the FBI, Mr. Sweeney served in the U.S. Navy aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf. A Philadelphia-area native, Mr. Sweeney is a graduate of Villanova University and has a bachelor’s degree in political science. He has a master’s degree in security studies from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Michael Greco, United States Marshal, Southern District of New York

ny-s-grecoRecommended by Senator Charles Schumer and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate, Michael Greco was appointed by President Barack Obama on March 17, 2015 as the 45th United States Marshal for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). Marshal Greco is one of 94 United States Marshals in the country, one for each federal court district; and oversees all Marshals Service operations within the SDNY which includes Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Bronx and New York Counties.

 

Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents and raised in Rockland County, Mike entered the New York State Police Academy in 1982. This was the beginning of what would become a colorful and diverse law enforcement career which continues to this day. As a 32-year veteran of the New York State Police (NYSP) he earned numerous awards and citations throughout his career, including eight NYSP Superintendent Commendations, the Drug Enforcement Administration’s “Award of Honor”, and the NAACP “Unsung Hero” Humanitarian Award, just to name a few. He also has been recognized on numerous occasions for his efforts as a September 11, 2001 first responder.

 

The United States Marshals Service is the oldest law enforcement agency in the country dating back to 1789 when the first 13 Marshals were appointed by President George Washington. Having the distinction of being the first Hispanic United States Marshal appointed to the SDNY,  Marshal Greco has become a proud part of that rich and historic tradition.

 

Marshal Greco and his wife Sabrina reside in Rockland County, NY and have four children – Diana, Mark, Brianna and Brittney.
