Security Officer of the Year Award presented by ASIS New York Chapter is to recognize an outstanding achievement and professionalism of a security officer. The award distinguishes an act of bravery, courage, competence and selflessness of a security officer who went beyond the call of duty to protect people and/or property. It is not necessary for nominees to be an ASIS member.
Conditions:
The nominated security officer, contracted or proprietary, must have performed an act(s) of merit leading to the saving of life, property, information, etc. or leading to the arrest or apprehension of a perpetrator of a crime while on duty. The act(s) should have taken place between October 1, 2014 and October 31, 2015. All nominations must be made by the nominated Security Officer’s superior and submitted via the form located below.
Note: The nominee must have been assigned to a site in New York City (Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island, Queens), and the act(s) must have occurred at this location. In addition the nominee must be the holder of a current New York State Security Guard License.
Marketability:
The successful employing company will be granted the option to promote that their personnel won the ASIS Security Officer of the Year Award.

Selection:
The Security Officer of the Year Award will be selected by an independent panel determined by the ASIS New York Security Officer of The Year Award board. The panel’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Award:
The award recipient will be presented the Security Officer of the Year award at the Holiday Luncheon and will receive a monetary award of $1500.
Deadline:
All award nominations must be submitted by November 27th 2015.

The Metropolitan College of New York has announced the launch of an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Emergency Management & Business Continuity, January 2014. Both programs will meet the professional development needs of individuals who would like to advance their existing career pursue new careers within homeland security, emergency management, business continuity, disaster recovery, project management, and international humanitarian emergency response. They are also designed to meet the needs of individuals seeking a career change and high school graduates looking to enter this growing new industry.
The curriculum includes foundational general education courses and courses offering comprehensive exposure to the basics of Emergency management and Business Continuity. The faculty includes working professionals who ensure that students learn best practices from industry leaders who deal with disasters and disruptions on a daily basis. This broad-based approach, coupled with integrated field experiences, on-site certification courses, and participation in large-scale city-wide Emergency Management exercises, makes for a foundational degree that graduates can take anywhere.
The accelerated structure of the programs will make it possible for students to earn an Associate’s degree in just sixteen months and a Bachelor’s degree in just two years and eight months.
